David Normandy Custom Builder works out of East Orleans, and the name on the door is literal — Dave Normandy still runs every job himself, by the company's own account, and does his own cabinet making rather than handing it off to a sub. The company says it has built houses on Cape Cod since 1968, and the reviews on file back up decades of the same kind of work: full custom homes, major additions, and top-to-bottom renovations. What keeps coming up across seven BuildZoom reviews and four Google reviews, spanning 2020 to 2026, isn't just praise — it's the same specific behavior. Clients who weren't onsite for their own projects describe getting regular texted photos and progress updates; one homeowner who had Dave raze an existing house and build a new one in its place credits him with tracking budget and coordinating every decision along the way. Another client, writing in 2024, says the working relationship has run for over 20 years across a large renovation and addition plus smaller jobs like a bathroom update. Every review on file — all eleven of them — is five stars, and several describe the same pattern: subcontractors chosen carefully, materials picked for durability rather than looks, and a builder who volunteers design suggestions (moving a kitchen layout, adjusting a foundation to cut future water problems) rather than just executing a plan handed to him. Two Massachusetts licenses check out directly with the state: his construction supervisor registration (CS-026969) and his home improvement contractor registration (161017) are both active. That matters more here than it might elsewhere, since this is a business built on new construction and major additions, not just handyman-scale repairs. One thing worth asking about directly: the company's own website says it has been building on the Cape 'since 1968' in one place, and calls itself in 'our fifth decade as a Cape builder' in another — those two claims don't line up, so it's worth getting a straight answer on how long Dave Normandy has personally been doing this rather than assuming the older number. This is a good call for a homeowner planning a full custom build, teardown-rebuild, or a major addition who wants one person staying close to the project rather than a large firm handing it off between crews — less of a fit for someone who just needs a single quick repair, since nothing on file points to that kind of work.
I hired David Normandy to raze my existing house and build a completely new one. I cannot stress enough how happy I am that I hired him. I was not capable of being onsite and David did a tremendous job of keeping me informed of his progress, sending me pictures, taking my budget into consideration, and coordinating important decisions with me. His attention to detail was greatly appreciated, his suggestions were extremely helpful, especially since I have never done this before and, therefore, did not have the expertise to think of everything that would make this home easier to live in and efficient. I would recommend him to everyone who is doing any renovations or homebuilding.
We have worked with Dave Normandy for over 20 years for various projects including a large renovation and addition as well as smaller projects such as a bathroom renovation. Mr. Normandy is the kind of person and professional that anyone would feel fortunate to work with: He is honest, thorough, determined and creative. He is also capable and dependable - and does excellent work. How much better can it get? My wife and I have the highest regard for him
We enjoyed an outstanding experience working with Dave on our major home renovation project. His passion for delivering quality work is exceptional and frankly refreshing. Dave is extremely organized, uses high quality building materials, and works with equally high quality subcontractors. Dave’s communication to us throughout the project was also excellent as he regularly shared project updates and pictures with us. We feel extremely fortunate to have worked with Dave as his many years of experience enabled us to navigate many project complexities with minimal stress. He is also a pleasure to work with, extremely professional, and someone who we trust implicitly. Dave is simply an exceptional builder!
Our experience working with Dave to dramatically transform our home during the past year was outstanding. His passion for delivering quality work is exceptional. He ensured that each step of our complex project was well planned and coordinated while using quality materials and subcontractors throughout the project. He continuously kept us informed and shared progress pictures regularly since we were off cape for most of the project. Finally, Dave took a personal interest in our project and made several suggestions along the way that further improved the final product. It is rare to find someone like Dave who cares so deeply about his work and we feel very fortunate to have worked with him on our project!
Dave Normandy underpromises and over delivers. He is neat, punctual and treats you like a family member. Always guiding you to the best decisions based on his wealth of knowledge in the construction industry. I would recommend Dave in a heartbeat. We were fortunate to have him as our general contractor.
