Paul's Fabrication & Welding is a small Methuen metal shop, and the tell is who turns up on the job: Paul, often working alongside his son. Railings and custom ironwork are what homeowners come to them for — measure the stairs, build the piece, come back and set it. Six Google ratings averaging 4.3, five of them written out, is a shallow history for a business that has been reviewed since 2023. What history there is runs in one direction, though. The people describing railing and custom fabrication work praise the design-and-build side of it: they got the piece they asked for, built to take real use. The single critical review isn't about workmanship at all. It turns on how a very small repair inquiry was handled over the phone. If what you need is one weld rather than a fabricated railing, ask up front whether they take that kind of job — the answer may be no. So: a reasonable call for a custom railing, gate, or bracket around Methuen, and a poor fit for a five-minute repair. With a crew this size, their schedule sets the timeline rather than yours, so pin down the quote and the lead time before any steel gets cut.

Paul made us a beautiful custom railing to keep the babies away from the wood stove. It’s solid as a rock. The paint is shiny and durable. It gets the job done, keeping the kids safe for two winters and counting. Thank you Paul!

We added a new step so our railing needed to be extended. This was a safety issue for our son with special needs. Paul quoted the job and came out to see it on the same day. He and his son came out out the next day, making two 2 balusters, to complete the job. Problem solved at a fair price. Would recommend to anyone needing a specialized wrought iron railing repair. I only need to paint the original railing to get another 30 years!

How he got 5 stars is beyond me from the way the phone is answered to not being interested in a small simple job . All I needed was a piece of a handle bar welded back together

We recently had Paul and Justin install new railings. Not only did they do a great job, but they were also polite, professional, always had a clean workspace and punctual.

Paul and Justin did an outstanding job! We worked with them to design and build a custom double mailbox bracket. The bracket was built to hold 2 heavy duty mailboxes on either side of the granite post. Their work is outstanding and was beyond our expectations. You definitely need to give them your business. See pictures of before and after.
