Stello Construction is a South Chatham, Cape Cod general contractor that's been building and remodeling homes since 1976, when it started as a small family operation doing decks and small jobs before growing into full custom home construction, additions, remodeling and custom woodworking. Both of its Massachusetts licenses check out with the state — the home improvement contractor registration held by Stello Construction Enterprises, and Robert Stello's own construction supervisor license — are both active, and the Better Business Bureau gives it an A+ grade, though it isn't a BBB-accredited business. BuildZoom shows a strong permit history: a 97 score across 112 permits pulled. Its written reviews are few but detailed. In 2022, one customer praised new deck railings and posts as professional work from a repeat contractor they'd use again; another called out attention to detail across a kitchen expansion, window replacement, addition and new siding, having used the firm for several projects. A third review from the same year is more mixed: the chimney work on a new roof installed in 2020 held up fine, but a section of the roof itself blew off in January 2022, and the customer says they were charged for the repair. Worth asking about: how workmanship issues on prior jobs, like that roof repair, get handled if something goes wrong after the fact. With active state licensing and a long local track record, Stello is a reasonable option for a custom addition, remodel or woodworking project on the Cape — just get the warranty terms in writing.
Deck railings and posts The Stello team was nothing but professional. We had new desk railings and posts installed. It looks great. This is not the first job Stello's did for us. We would highly recommend this company. Mike C Brewster
Kitchen expansion and remodel. Window replacement. Small addition. New siding Excellent attention to detail and quality. We have used this firm for several projects and have always been completely satisfied.
New Roof and repair failure I hired the Stello organization to install a complete new roof and chimney in the summer of 2020. The chimney work was professional and has caused no problems since. The roof had to be repaired when a portion of it blew away in January 2022. I was charged for and paid for the repairs. Three months later those repairs failed in another high wind. I checked all neighboring houses with similar exposures and none had damaged roofs. Ridge vents were exposed to wind and rain, so I have no idea how much rain got into my attic (time will tell). No attempt was made to inspect or cover the damaged roof and I was told it would be repaired within the week. The company agreed to cover the cost of repair, but I chose to hire someone to close up the roof sooner to avoid more damage. He found inferior workmanship and even different shingles in some parts of the roof. Despite their good reputation, due to their high cost, failure to stand behind the original work and poor quality, I would not recommend hiring this firm.
