The House Company

The House Company is a Hyannis design-build shop whose name shows up in the Cape Cod Times going back to the late 1990s — in 1999 the paper reported that a ten-person Discovery Channel crew filmed one of its remodels at a home on Main Street in Barnstable. That is the kind of history that separates a long-running Cape builder from a new truck with a magnet on the door. The company says Jeff Goldstein started it in 1982 and that Michael Rockwell, who had spent more than 20 years as its lead construction manager, bought the business and took over as owner and president on January 1, 2016. By its own count that is 44 years on the Cape. The work it describes is the full design-build range: additions and new construction, kitchen and bath renovations, decks and porches, and historic restorations — with a stated service area that runs from Bourne and Buzzards Bay out through Barnstable, Chatham, Harwich and Orleans. Independent coverage is real but old. A 2006 Cape Cod Times business column noted that Jeffrey Goldstein, then president and owner, was picked to judge the Eastern Massachusetts NARI Contractor of the Year Awards — peer recognition, though of the previous owner rather than the current one. A 2000 article quoted him on the Cape's renovation backlog. Every outside mention here dates from 1999 to 2006, all of it from before the 2016 handover. What that leaves is a company with a documented past and a quiet present. The credentials it advertises — EPA certification, membership in NAHB and the Home Building and Remodelers Association, and repeat Cape Cod Home Builders Association Remodeler of the Year awards — are its own statements, not something confirmed here, so ask to see them. Worth a call if you want an established Cape design-build outfit for an addition, a period-house restoration, or a whole-room renovation. Before you sign, ask Rockwell for recent references from the last year or two, and confirm the association awards and EPA lead-safe certification directly.
