Wood Star Flooring is a Cape Cod hardwood specialist that reviewers know by two first names — Alex and Mels — who show up together on job after job. The company says it was founded in 2018 and has installed more than 250,000 square feet of flooring across the Cape since. 82 reviews recorded since 2021 across four sources average five stars on Google (91 ratings), with 7 more in the last six months and none negative. The jobs described are almost entirely hardwood — refinishing decades-old oak and pine floors and blending new boards into the old ones so the seam disappears, patching rot and subfloor damage, and installing luxury vinyl plank and tile. In a 2022 review, one homeowner described the crew adding new hardwood into a kitchen and refinishing two wide staircases to match 22-year-old floors throughout the rest of the house. Reviewers who bought century-old Cape houses and reviewers who just built new ones describe the same pattern: on time, responsive by text and photo updates during the job, and a clean site each day. In a 2021 review, one customer said a red oak floor Wood Star installed at a Cape summer cottage still showed no gaps or wavering three years later. Its Massachusetts home improvement contractor registration lapsed in 2020 — two years after the company started — and the state registry shows it has not been renewed since; worth asking about directly before signing a contract. For a hardwood refinishing or installation job anywhere on the Cape, this is a well-reviewed, established crew — confirm their current registration status and get the scope and price in writing before work begins.
