When a 20-year-old gas furnace quit one morning in April 2024, Glen and his crew were in that same day and the entire system was replaced the next — at what that homeowner called the best rate of the three estimates they'd collected. That is the shape of most of what people write about Cape Cod Central Heating & Cooling: a small Cape shop, fast, priced at the low end. The company's Massachusetts HVAC licence, 860-SM-B, is registry-verified active in the company's own name. Customers write about Glen Duguay by first name. A mini-split customer writing in October 2024 said he walked the job, talked them out of equipment they had asked for and saved them thousands, and had the install done about a week after the call. On HomeAdvisor in 2023, a homeowner said he was the only technician willing to work through the diagnosis over the phone before driving out. In 2022 someone whose unit had been dead for two years said it was running at full capacity within an hour of a same-day visit. Two things are worth pinning down before you call. Google's average sits at 4.2 across 21 ratings — below every written review on that page, all of which are five stars. A reviewer in April 2024 noticed the same gap and guessed that others had Glen confused with a different company. The written history has also gone quiet: the newest customer account is from December 2024, and the three reviews on Angi are the same three that appear on HomeAdvisor, at the same 4.5 average. The paperwork deserves a question too. BuildZoom lists an active Sheet Metal Business licence for the company plus a separate home improvement contractor registration, #190395, that it shows as inactive or cancelled at one point — that is BuildZoom's own record rather than a state verification, so ask directly which registrations they carry if your job runs past straight mechanical work. BBB lists the business at 10 years, not accredited and with no rating. For a Cape heat pump, mini-split or central A/C install where speed and a competitive number matter more than a big-company service desk, the accounts running through 2024 are consistent about both. Get the quote in writing and confirm the licensing that applies to your particular job.
We recently had a heat pump installed to cool our second floor. While we have not really had the opportunity to try it yet, we had a positive experience with James for the install that I want to share. In short, we agreed an install plan and James did exactly what we had agreed in an efficient manner and at the agreed timing. Further, as noted in the picture, I appreciated the manner in which he ran the piping through our siding which is much more durable and neater than that performed on our first floor unit, by a different contractor, and which suggests good attention to detail and pride in work. Finally, a short time after James was complete and had been paid, I noticed something that I would have preferred to have been done differently. James came back within a day and without complaint and made the change without further charge. I fully recommend him and would use him again.
Glen installed my mini split last May, like a week after I called. During the walk through, he talked me out of unnecessary stuff I thought I wanted, saving me thousands. Very direct, simple approach with the location and install. Somehow way less complicated than the other guy I talked to. Best part was the estimate coming in less than half of the other estimate! Then, he recently went above and beyond to help me sort out a problem, months after I had already paid him in full. Quality service, quality human. Thanks Glen
Fast friendly service. What more can I say. Reading these other reviews and my guess is they have Glen confused with someone else.
Great service! Our 20+ year old gas furnace stopped working one morning. Glen and his crew were in that same day. Entire system replaced the very next day. The best rates of 3 estimates we received!
Glen was the only tech willing to talk to me on the phone and help me diagnose my problem. When we determined my condenser unit needed replacing, he came promptly, on time, and with the right equipment. He took time to explain it to me, educate me, and did some extra work that was not directly related to the condenser (e.g., he found a gas leak and improved the in-house return and supply set up. I would highly recommend him and the company for heating and cooling repair or installation. Adam S., Eastham, MA.
