Charter Contracting Company works where land meets water. From a Boston headquarters on Harrison Avenue, the firm takes on environmental remediation and civil construction — regulated soil and sediment management, waterway remediation, brownfield redevelopment — for commercial, federal, and state and local clients. That client list is the first thing to know: this is not a residential contractor. Its permit trail shows the shape of the work. BuildZoom lists a replacement of a deteriorating sea wall section with new stone revetment in Newburyport, and excavation at the former Medfield State Hospital campus under DCAMM — six permitted projects in all, alongside a BuildZoom score of 91. Charter's own account fills in the rest. The company says it has taken the AGC Safety Award 17 times, holds an ISNetworld "A" rating, keeps an EMR consistently below 1, and trains field personnel to 40-hour HAZWOPER. It also says Engineering News-Record has listed it among the Top 200 Environmental Firms 18 times, ranking it #116 in 2022, and that the Boston Business Journal named it the third-largest minority-owned and largest Latin American-owned business in Massachusetts. Those are the company's own statements. Public customer comment is nearly nonexistent. One written Google review, posted in December 2025, says simply: "Great company to work with!! Thank you Charter." A 2020 Wicked Local item reported that Mark Joyce of Marshfield had rejoined the firm as director of business development. That is the whole public trail. On credentials, BuildZoom lists a Massachusetts Asbestos Contractor license it reports as active, Connecticut asbestos licenses, and a Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration it shows as inactive and once cancelled — directory entries, not registry confirmations. If you're an agency, developer or general contractor facing a contaminated site or a waterfront problem, Charter is the kind of firm that work goes to. Ask for project references on a job like yours directly, since there is little public reputation to lean on.
