Freiner Company, Inc. is a Belmont plumbing and heating outfit whose reviews keep circling back to the same handful of technicians — Olivia, Dave, Carl, Hans, and Steve among them — described by name, again and again, as thorough and straightforward. One recurring theme: honesty when it would have been easier to sell something. One reviewer says another company quoted $15,000 to replace a tankless water heater's entire system; Freiner instead repaired the existing unit and re-did the pipes to make it safe, lending a loaner heater while a part was on order. Another describes Olivia and Hans fixing an issue that a different company had tried to upsell on. The jobs described range from routine to complex: a faulty valve causing a leak through 1st-floor ceiling light fixtures on a Sunday afternoon, a broken boiler fan motor keeping a household up at night, a full furnace replacement completed in a single day after homeowners chose Freiner over a cheaper bid for the confidence the team gave them, and a leaking pipe under a kitchen sink replaced by a technician who's been in the trade since 1989. Response times come up often — same-day fixes for water heaters, boilers, and shower valves, and a technician who stayed until nearly 8pm to be sure a leak was actually fixed. Not everything in the record is smooth. In a January 2025 review, a customer described being told there was no common $10 boiler part on the truck, being quoted $290 an hour, and then having Freiner decline to provide a quote at all. A November 2024 review described a water heater replacement that didn't restore hot water, calling the week that followed trying to get it resolved a "nightmare." Another review from that same period described a $500 bill for two hours of work, with an extra half hour added for driving time despite the job being in the same town as the office. And a 2024 review described being charged over $500 to drain an expansion tank, with the technician saying he'd even billed a client for his own traffic ticket during a service call. The company holds an active Massachusetts plumber license, is BBB accredited with an A+ rating, and shows a 4.8-star Google average from 92 ratings. For plumbing and heating work in the Belmont area, this is a company with a real base of specific, positive accounts and named technicians people ask for by name — worth getting a clear rate and scope in writing given the billing complaints on file.
“It's a great family business that responds quickly and gets the job done. Very nice people and fair prices!”
Always appreciate Dave immensely over the years. Super friendly, and recommending best ways to proceed with any problem. Cost conscious too.
Carl from Freiner Company and his colleague Roger were incredibly kind, professional and efficient. We are very grateful for their help and will certainly work with them again!
So grateful! We were in crisis mode on a late afternoon Sunday with a faulty valve which caused rapid leaking from the 2nd floor through multiple light fixtures on the ceiling on our 1st floor. Carl received the call and was helpful, professional and kind. He was knowledgeable and thoughtful in his diagnosis of the issue. I appreciated the fact that he would explain his thoughts and rationale to me even though it was probably clear I didn’t really know much at all about what we were dealing with! Thank you Carl and Clark & team.
Excellent service! I have used them a few times now , latest - water heater went , called in the AM , they were there and replaced it by mid afternoon, professional and courteous plumbing staff -highly recommend!!
I have a tankless water heater that was installed incorrectly by the previous owner’s plumber/HVAC guy. I called one local company that doesn’t work on Navien so they gave me a $15,000 quote to replace the whole system. When I called Freiner, they made an effort to repair the existing heater and redo the pipes in the closet to make sure it was safe and functioning efficiently. While they waited for the part to come in to fix my existing heater, they provided me with a temporary heater which was extremely helpful. The woman in the office is lovely, communicates really well, and answers all questions promptly. I had no consistent plumber before this and I wouldn’t hesitate to call them again for anything.
