Max Heating and Cooling is a Saugus-based HVAC outfit that people keep calling back — the numbers alone tell part of the story: 102 ratings on Google averaging five stars, with 85 written reviews stretching from 2021 through this July. The through-line across nearly all of them is speed on the worst possible day: an AC dies mid-heat-wave, a furnace goes cold, and Dan — the owner, named in review after review — or a member of his crew turns up within hours, sometimes the same morning. In a 2025 review, one homeowner called at 8AM after their AC failed overnight; Dan diagnosed a mouse that had nested in the unit and fried the capacitor, and had it fixed before the day got hot. In a 2024 review, another homeowner whose larger HVAC company wouldn't send anyone out during a heat wave got Dan on the phone and a technician out within a few hours. And in a 2024 review, a family that had cycled through seven different heating and cooling companies after a chemical leak contaminated their air handler said Dan was the first to give a thorough explanation of what had actually happened. The work itself runs from routine repairs and tune-ups to full system overhauls — oil-to-gas boiler conversions, mini-split and heat pump installs, central air replacements, and water heater work — usually credited to a small, recurring cast of named techs (Joe, Joseph, Brandon, Shane, Mike) alongside Dan and office manager Stacy, who reviewers repeatedly single out for keeping communication moving. It isn't spotless. A June 2026 review describes a central air installation with ongoing issues and says the company stopped responding to follow-up questions and repair requests, adding they weren't knowledgeable about the equipment's specs. And in a 2025 Reddit thread comparing Boston-area HVAC contractors, one commenter noted this company skipped a Manual J load calculation — the standard sizing math before an install — while still being quick in and out. For most jobs described here, the pattern is a fast callback and a tech who explains what's wrong before fixing it; the two exceptions above are worth asking about directly, especially before a full system installation.
“Didn't do a Manual J :( and generally was pretty quick in & out.”
Max Heating had my A/C up and running in no time. Professional, affordable, reliable and friendly! Who could ask for more! The best crew with the best boss! Thanks Dan!
Absolute 5-star service! I highly recommend Max Heating and Cooling for anyone needing reliable HVAC help or AC repair. They were super fast, incredibly friendly, and fixed my air conditioning perfectly. Their pricing was very reasonable too. I will definitely call them for any future heating and cooling needs!
NOT RECOMMENDED. I wish I did not fall for a good talk and went with other proposals. The central air system they installed has had multiple issues and they are not responding to questions and repair requests. They are not even knowledgeable on the specs of equipment they recommend. Find another HVAC company.
Dan the Man is truly the man! He saved me last HOT spring when I was home alone with a newborn and the A/C wasn’t working. He was super friendly and very knowledgeable. He got my system up and running in no time! Not to mention I had a super jumpy puppy that was all over him and he was wonderful with him. Big dog guy, big family guy! Will only use Max Plumbing going forward.
