Most roofers will not go near a steeple. In February 2026 the owner of an old Victorian mansion wrote that US Roofing repaired theirs, a job they said most roofers would not touch, and ordered a custom shingle colour to make it stand out, with Mike, one of the owners, on site for what counted as the smaller of their two jobs that year. Awkward old roofs come up repeatedly. In December 2024 a Marblehead homeowner who had been chasing a leak in the slate roof of a 100-year-old house for months described Mike turning up with a drone to find exactly where the water was getting in. In August 2024 another Marblehead roof, 25 years old, needed Old and Historic district permits, which the company handled; that customer noticed the crew picking up every nail before they left. A November 2021 customer had a tricky Victorian roof replaced start to finish. The emergencies are where speed shows. In May 2024 a tree came through a roof with rain forecast for that evening; the homeowner called several companies and said US Roofing was the only one to drop everything and come out. In November 2023 a customer who had gathered more than ten quotes said this was the lowest in the region, and the leaking roof was moved up the schedule and finished in two or three days with high-end shingles. On Reddit in May 2025, someone in a Salem thread wrote that they went with US Roofing, found them cheap and fairly easy to work with, and had a crew on site about four days after the winter broke. The company dates to 1977, when Will Murray started it with a pickup truck; his sons Craig and Michael run it now from Peabody, covering Greater Boston, the North Shore and the Merrimack Valley. Customers write about that span themselves: one in April 2025 has used them for more than twenty years, one in September 2023 had the roof first put on their parents' house thirty years earlier replaced, and one in December 2023 said a problem with a roof installed ten years before was answered the same day. The Better Business Bureau grades them A+, and the Google average is 4.9 across 59 ratings. The thing to pin down is the estimate. An April 2024 customer said a surveyor came for a repair quote, a week passed with no estimate and no message, a phone call brought a promise, and two weeks after that nothing had arrived. By contrast an October 2025 condo association had an eight-day job with the supervisor and foreman on the property throughout and the site cleared at the end of each day. For an old, complicated or historic roof on the North Shore, slate, a steeple, or a district that needs permits, this is a firm with nearly fifty years of that work behind it and a habit of turning up for the emergency. Get the estimate in writing with a date attached, and ask who the foreman will be, because the crews get named in these reviews as often as the owners do.
